Blastac® Blast Blanket Solutions

Blastac SB Series has earned the top spot as the leading blast blankets for the oil and gas industry. Our blast blankets are engineered specifically for high-pressure testing safety and blast protection on gas and oil rigs. With up to hundreds of hours lost to testing every year, the SB72FM Series is designed to minimize downtime and reduce rig operation shutdowns.

Every two to three weeks, all offshore rigs must perform BOP/C & K Manifold pressure tests leading to rig floor operation shutdowns. This process is costly for rig contractors and operators (Reference API standard 53 – Blowout prevention for Drilling Wells).

BlastTac, the only truly non-flammable fabric approved for hazardous area installation at onshore and offshore locations, provides fire and blast protection, acoustic protection, and performs as an arc flash barrier, making it the most versatile solution available.

High pressure testing blast protection

The SB Series from BlastTac offers superior protection against a wide range of threats, including the increasingly prevalent non-deformable and deformable ones. Rigorously tested to UL752 level 1 through 3+ standards for ballistics resistance, our blast curtains combine high speed frag capture capability with FireMax technology that enables them to stand up even in fire or thermal conditions. Weighing less than competitors’ products while still providing solid defense, these lightweight yet durable solutions are perfect for ensuring your security needs are met anytime – anywhere!

Independent Assessment and Verification

DNV GL’s independent assessment has confirmed that the SB Series is robustly outfitted to meet blast containment requirements, a crucial factor in oil rig protection. To ensure utmost assurance for their clients, ExxonMobil partnered with Aker Solutions—the trusted engineering partner – and completed Lloyds Register’s rigorous certification process on Blastac and JBS pressure test blast curtain solutions.

We offer a variety of standard options and custom engineered designs including:

FEA - Finite Element Analysis

By utilizing finite element analysis (FEA), our engineers can digitally simulate the behavior of parts or assemblies under specific conditions – allowing for more precise optimization and a reduction in physical prototyping. FEA enables us to accurately assess components as part of project design processes via the finite element method.

Finite element analysis (FEA) applies mathematical models to measure and understand the effects of real-world conditions on a part or assembly. With advanced software, engineers can simulate potential design issues such as tension and weak spots, making it an essential tool for predicting problems before they occur.

The complex processes of FEA are described using partial differential equations (PDEs), which must then be solved in order to extract parameters such as stress and strain rates. Fortunately, FEA can be used to provide approximate solutions to these problems.
These simulations are the basis of modern software, with results displayed on computer-generated color scales.

FIREMAX FIREPROOF PROTECTION

For high-temperature and fire protection, the SB72FM Series features new FireMax 733 technology. This woven fabric is designed to survive fire, heat and arc flash using a single blast curtain. Because it is truly non-flammable, FireMax material will not burn, melt or ignite and will also shed molten metal, certain chemicals, flammable liquids and other molten substances making it the perfect fire barrier. Water-resistant and durable in harsh weather conditions.  Learn More.
